Tasty Tuesday: A Taste of Barcelona – Spanish Garlic Shrimp

A Mediterranean Favorite Paired with Ketcham Viognier

Our next wine adventure is taking us to the Mediterranean! In August 2027, Ketcham Winery and Fritz Winery will set sail aboard Oceania's beautiful new Sonata, beginning in Barcelona, Spain.

To celebrate, we're bringing a little taste of Spain to your table with Gambas al Ajillo, a classic Spanish tapas dish featuring juicy shrimp sizzling in garlic-infused olive oil.

Simple, flavorful, and perfect for sharing with friends, this dish pairs beautifully with a chilled glass of Ketcham Viognier.

🍤 Spanish Garlic Shrimp (Gambas al Ajillo)

Servings: 4 as an appetizer

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Cook Time: 10 minutes... easy peasy

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb large shrimp, peeled and de veined
  • ⅓ cup extra virgin olive oil
  • 6 garlic cloves, thinly sliced
  • ½ tsp smoked paprika
  • ¼ tsp crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 2 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • Crusty French or Spanish bread for serving
  1. Pat shrimp dry and season lightly with salt and pepper.
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-low heat.
  3. Add sliced garlic and red pepper flakes. Cook gently for 1–2 minutes until fragrant, being careful not to brown the garlic.
  4. Increase heat to medium and add shrimp and smoked paprika.
  5. Cook shrimp approximately 2–3 minutes per side until pink, opaque, and cooked through.
  6. Remove from heat and stir in lemon juice and fresh parsley.
  7. Serve immediately with warm crusty bread for dipping into the delicious garlic oil.

🍷 The Perfect Pairing: Ketcham Viognier

The aromatic character and bright fruit flavors of Ketcham Estate Viognier complement the rich garlic-infused olive oil and delicate sweetness of the shrimp. A refreshing pairing that brings the flavors of the Mediterranean and California wine country together.
