From the Ketcham Family
The Russian River Valley is where our heart and home are when it comes to the Pinot Noirs we make and love. Our wines embody the unique qualities that only Russian River Valley can offer - that wonderful blend of spices, sassafras, red and dark fruits and the beautiful balance that are incontrovertibly present in every bottle of our Pinot Noir.
Ketcham Estate wines are from our 17-acre vineyard property just off of Eastside Road, in Healdsburg, CA. The property has many microclimates across the vineyard, due mostly to the cooling westerly winds and a variety of soil structures, built from the vineyards proximity to our winding creek that borders the eastern and southern perimeter. This diversity, as well as the many Dijon and Pommard clones provide the wine with broad flavor profiles, great depth and structure. Our 'Old Vine' Pommard-4 block is over 25 years old, the oldest on the vineyard.
With pleasure, from our cellar to yours!
Cheers,
The Ketcham Family
2009 Ketcham Estate Ketcham Vineyard Pinot Noir
Tasting Note:
Aromatics: A lovely balanced nose of dark red fruits, currant and strawberry, with perfumes of French Oak. The aromas of summer flowers, Provencal herbs and mineral nuances blend nicely with the red fruits and earth characters that are typical with mature vines.
Palate: The palate leads with a firm, balanced, acidic structure. The texture is silky and medium-bodied. The mid-palate has that RRV quality we love with a core of profound red fruits married with tones of earth, spice, mineral and the earthiness of the forest floor, making it wonderful for pairing with food.
About: In the 2009 vintage, we have produced only 189 cases of our flagship Estate Pinot Noir. A percentage of the grapes for this wine come from the 25 year-old block of Pommard-4 on the east side of our property, as well as 828 and 777 clones. We have discovered these blocks are truly emblematic of the Russian River Valley and the terroir of our site, so we isolate the grapes by block and craft a wine we feel has true expression of where it comes from. Combine that with the incredible aromatics of the 2009 vintage, and we believe we have found our finest wine to date - one that blends profound pinot with nuanced elegance.

2009 Ketcham Estate Russian River Valley Pinot Noir
Tasting Note:
Aromatics: Deep and profound with red fruits, highlighted by raspberry, strawberry, with hints of warm spice. There are the signature sassafras and mineral nuances with flint, nutmeg, and a touch of clean earth.
Palate: The palate is rich and medium/full-bodied. The layers of flavor are focused and pure. Dark red fruits including blackberries, ripe raspberries pair well with the higher toned red currant notes.
About: Our Russian River Valley Pinot Noir is from the vines we planted when we purchased the vineyard in 2001. The pinot is predominantly Dijon clones 828, 115, 667 and 777 with a little Pommard from the old block on the vineyard as well as 10 year-old Pommard 4. This blend crafts a wine that is brighter in fruit and more approachable in its youth.
This Pinot Noir possesses the vineyard's trademark depth, intensity, power and breadth, and not at the sacrifice of nuance or complexity. It shows firm acidity, with good balance and structure. The 2009 vintage is showing more elegantly and aromatic than in years past and this wine portrays that elegance on the palate, which we think is an exciting combination. This is a delightful Pinot Noire to pair with a range of fine foods.
